Morning Meeting Schedule
In order to build community and get to know our classmates better, we will be giving students an opportunity to share about themselves one day a week at morning meeting. This is a lot along the lines of show and share or show and tell. The students can share something by talking or they may bring in something they wish to show to the class. This can be anything that 1. Fits in their cubby, 2. Is not violent or any type of weapon, and 3. Is not at risk of being broken, injured, or very valuable. As of right now, please no pets. We are also going to focus on the ability to ask meaningful questions and how to respond appropriately with a complete sentence. I have attached the schedule below and it will also be posted on our class website. *In addition, your student’s share day is their day to Shop for Books. This is the day they can choose new books to put in their book box for Reader's Workshop. It would be helpful if you can remind your student that as soon as they get their things put away in the classroom they need to shop for books.

Change of Transportation
Anytime that a student is going to be going home a different way than usual (example: a bus rider that is going to carpool today), we must have a note from a parent or guardian. Students will not be able to change transportation without a note.
Daily Folders
· Daily Folders come home each day and need to be returned each day. On Tuesdays, all of your student’s work from the week will be sent home in their Tuesday Folder. Please keep this work at home unless there is a note to ‘fix and return’. Please return their Tuesday Folder on Wednesday.
· Please discuss with your child the homework, classroom newsletter, and student work that is sent home to you each week. Though we are encouraging independent learning behaviors, students still need positive guidance when completing homework assignments. If you need ideas for how to support your child, I would be happy to meet with you, or please reference the "At Home" tab above.

Birthdays
Birthdays!! This year, in accordance with WCPSS’s policy for healthy kids, you may send in a book to celebrate your child’s birthday, instead of birthday sweets! This special book should be selected by your child and brought to school on their birthday (or the next school day, should their birthday fall on a weekend/holiday). The book may either be a donation to our classroom library or a book that we read as a class and then send back home. If you are not able to send in a book for your child’s birthday, your child may select a book from our classroom library for the class to read. We will have Community Snack, as scheduled on the calendar, for that day. Thank you for your support!

Volunteers
You must have a volunteer clearance completed and approved in order to help out in the classroom and/or on field trips. New clearances are needed each year. All volunteer registration must be completed at any WCPSS school. We would love for as many of you as possible to be active participants in our classroom throughout the year!

Class Celebrations
Wake County policy states that "class celebrations shall take place only as the culminating activity of units of study and not for birthdays, holidays, or other social occassions." Thus, we will not hold celebrations for any specific holidays or occassions, but rather in recognition of a particular unit studied.
